NY Record Buck Claim Bogus

By August 11th, 2023No Comments

A New York state hunter receives a ticket instead of accolades for killing a purported state-record buck. Wayne N. Long II of Watertown, New York, received a ticket from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation for filing a false statement. He claimed he shot a free-range, non-typical buck, which unofficially scored 220 B&C, at a friend’s property. But in fact, he had shot a farm-raised deer and moved it elsewhere to appear as though he shot it in the wild. The current New York state record for non-typical deer is 210 4/8.
