British Columbia Youth To Hunt Sitka

Sitka hunt will provide lunchmeat, marksmanship training for youth

Officials for the British Columbia archipelago of Haida Gwaii want to eradicate non-native Sitka deer. The deer thrive because they have no predators, and consume and destroy the natural habitat on the islands. Officials will provide marksmanship training for local youth to hunt the animals to provide school lunchmeat.

Culling the Sitka will pave the way for officials to fix the damaged landscape. Hunters will pursue Sitka on six islands in the archipelago.
