In this hustle and bustle world we live in, time is a very precious commodity. Whether it’s the individual moments spent with family and friends or a question of how many years and days we have here on Earth, time is always of the essence; very few of us have the luxury of unlimited time. The same is true with regards to how much time we have to spend hunting. More and more our sport takes on the aspects of a job, with tremendous resources being required. Whether it be the rising cost of leases, filling corn and protein feeders, planting food plots, or running an intensive management program, hunting is taking more time, time most of us do not have.

Bill Forces States To Accept Concealed Gun Permits
WASHINGTON—Americans with state-issued concealed weapons permits would be allowed to carry guns wherever they travel in the country under a bill introduced by Arkansas 3rd District Representative John Boozman (R-Rogers). The measure would eliminate a mishmash of concealed weapons regulations that vary from state to state, Boozman contends. All states would be forced to recognize concealed handgun permits from elsewhere. Gun control advocates oppose the bill. They say that gun permit standards in some states are so weak that other jurisdictions deserve the right to refuse those license holders.

Boozman said the bill ensures Second Amendment rights. “I’ve always felt like you can have a gun, openly display it, and there not be a problem,” he said. That some states reject licensed permits from other states “infringes on the Constitution.”

News of the Weird

One For The Pot
On the night of April 18, a wild turkey, approximately five to seven years old, smashed a living room bay window and entered the Bristol, Maine, home of Dick and Sonia Clime.

When the Climes returned home later that evening, they discovered a messy living room and large shards of glass on the floor at the scene, according to Animal Damage Control Agent Mike Witte.

Witte said he was called to the scene that evening, where he discovered the turkey in the bathroom, sitting on the commode. He deployed his net, eventually wrestling the turkey into submission despite large spurs on its legs.

“When I opened the door and turned on the light, there he was, on the commode,” said Witte. The turkey was so heavy he said, that he could barely lift it off the ground. Witte estimated the bird weighed about 25 pounds.

Witte estimated the bird probably hit the window at a speed of 25 to 30 mph.

“I've seen deer in houses, skunks in basements, coons in attics, squirrels, you name it, but never a turkey on a commode before,” Witte said.

Witte said the fact that mating season had arrived could be a factor in the odd behavior. After being examined, the bird was released back into the wild, Witte said.—Courtesy Mike Colbert, The Lincoln County News
