ANNUAL DEER COMPETITION
RULES
ELIGIBILITY
The Hunters Extravaganza® Deer Competition is open only to current members of the Texas Trophy Hunters Association™ (TTHA) and their immediate family (immediate family is specifically limited to spouse and minor children).
All entries must have been killed (picked up deer are not eligible) during the 2009-2010 season (excluding Division V: Best in Previous Five Seasons—see additional rules), and by legal means as described in the applicable state's game laws. High-fenced ranches must be 200 acres or more. All entries must have been killed by the contestant (person entering the animal) though the physical entry at a Hunter Extravaganzas® event may be made by a person appointed by the entrant to act in the capacity of a designated alternate. The alternate must provide all necessary entry information at the time of entry. Each deer may be entered only in one (1) Hunters Extravaganza® event (San Antonio, Houston, or Dallas/Ft. Worth). Official contestant photos of each entrant or their designated alternate will be taken at the time of entry. All entrants release use of their photos and likeness for marketing and promotional use by TTHA. All entries MUST remain on display until after the awards presentation (4:00 p.m. Sunday of each show).
Immediate Disqualification will occur for any entry that is determined by TTHA Contest Officials to be found (picked up), purchased, taken prior to the current competition, or a mounted shed. All decisions will be final!
ENTRY DEADLINE
All entries must be registered for competition no later than 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon on the weekend of each city’s Hunters Extravaganza®. The official Time Clock is located in the TTHA Deer Scoring Booth. Entries may be registered as early as Friday at 3:00 p.m.
SCORING PROCEDURES
TTHA Contest Officials of the 2010 Hunters Extravaganza® Annual Deer Competition will score each entry utilizing net scores, as determined by the Boone and Crockett (B&C) method of scoring, with the following exception regarding non-typical classification: bucks possessing fifteen (15) or more inches of non-typical antler will be considered by the TTHA Contest Officials to be non-typical entries. Bucks possessing less than fifteen (15) inches of non-typical antler will be considered by the Contest Officials to be typical entries. A score sheet prepared by a certified B&C official may be accepted by TTHA Contest Officials as a 2010 Hunters Extravaganza® Annual Deer Competition score sheet at the discretion of the TTHA Chief Scorer. All scores and decisions of the TTHA Chief Scorer are final.
DIVISIONS & CATEGORIES
There are four primary Divisions for which entrants may qualify:

Awards
Only the top three scoring entries from qualified contestants for each category will be eligible for awards (excluding Division V: Best in Previous Five Seasons—see additional rules). In the event of a tie, inside spread will determine the break in place. All first-place winners must be present (or have a pre-arranged representative designated) to receive an award. All award decisions will be final!
Division V: Best in Previous Five Seasons will be determined by the whitetail entry in Division V that is the closest to or in excess of the B&C minimums (170 typical or 195 non-typical). For example, if the top-scoring typical deer scores 175, it is five (5) inches in excess of the 170 typical B&C minimum. If the top-scoring non-typical is 190, or five (5) inches under the 195 B&C minimum, the 175 typical will win the high award even though the 190 is a bigger score.
Additional Awards
Additional awards will be given to winners in the following categories:
- High Overall Women’s Category
- High Overall Youth Category
- Best of Show
- People’s Choice Award
- Best Perfect 8 Point Whitetail
- These High Overall Awards (High Overall Women’s, High Overall Youth and Best of Show) will be determined by the whitetail entry in each classification that is the closest to or in excess of the B&C minimums (170 typical or 195 non-typical).
- Best of Show will be determined from all combined entries at each Hunters Extravaganza® event from Divisions I, II, III and IV.
- High Overall Youth and High Overall Women’s winners will be determined from the entries in those respective classes only from Divisions I, II, III and IV.
- People’s Choice Award will be decided by a popular vote of attendees at each Hunters Extravaganza show who completely fill out an official ballot. Only one vote per household will be counted.
- Best Perfect 8 Point Whitetail will be determined by the highest net score of a whitetail entry from the entries in those respective classes only from Divisions I, II, III and IV, with exactly eight natural points (three (3) natural points off the beam on each side plus the point of the beam,) containing zero (0) inches of abnormal growth or signs of broken or removed growth. Any deer suspected of once possessing more than exactly eight natural points will not be eligible.
